Back to School
Yes parents and kids we’re finally here again: The beginning of the school year. And as some of you are blasting your 90’s punk based rock music while smothering your head in a pillow hoping society will collapse in the next two weeks, the rest of us are taking the proverbial exhale of annoyance as we stand on the brink of another nauseating, drama-infused nine months of our lives. While we may not escape without some well-deserved scars, from this school year we get another chance to start fresh, anew and clean with that long-awaited haircut we finally realized we were not “too cool” for. A little relief is placed on parents that spent too many long hours thinking of new and “hip” ways to entertain their spoiled, snotty children. Even businesses seem to smile a little wider as their employees get ready for the labor day weekend and the rush of shopping season. Pencils, notebooks, planners, folders, calculators, binders, pocket protectors, gym bags, polos, khakis, and uniforms finally get to breath once again after staying in storage for the past year or so. “Newly arrived” hand-me-downs are ready to be worn by ungrateful youngsters as they run not walk to the local bus stop. Although it is a time dreaded by most kids it should be appreciated because we can’t have an endless summer before we get sick of looking at ourselves and ready for a change in scenery. Sure the teachers are snobby, water fountains don’t work, the class bell gives you a headache, and the swarm of students in the parking lot is far less than appealing but in the end it all makes up the symphony of education. I say cheer up and buckle down because the road is long and strenuous but it just adds up as one more year down and that is always a good prospect. Besides, school is just a constant reminder that we don’t have a job to go to or any other real responsibility. Who wouldn’t want that?
